Mark Fast is the new sensation in knitwear. Mark, originally from Winnepeg went of to study in Central Saint Martins where he earned an MA in February 2008. He collaborated with the London based Turkish designer Bora Aksu creating his knitwear for three seasons. And in his first collection for London Fashion Week Spring Summer 09, he generated a lot of attention. The collection was body concious (his technique of using lycra in his knitwear created a very lovely silhouette ) and with just four colors: Blue, Red, White and Black it was a very impacting first show. Apparently Peaches Geldof enjoyed the show so much, she rushed backstage to congratulate Mark.
Mark knits everything by hand on a domestic knitting machine, and strives to find new and innovative ways to modernize stiching techniques and mixing his yarn with new fibers. His clothes resemble couture like cobwebs that are very intricately designed to be molded onto the body.

For London Fashion Weeks 25th Anniversary, Mark was inspired by thunderstorms for his Autumn Winter 09 collection. He described it as "the moment of fear mixed with negativity that becomes something beautiful" And beautiful it was with some hints of Alaia...yet he made it his own. The viscose fringe was amazing, especially the lavander skirt. We look forward to his next collection, eager to see what Mark will do next.
